Why baseboards matter more than you think

Baseboards frame every room in your home. Replacing thin, builder-grade base with a taller profile is one of the simplest ways to make a home feel more finished. It is especially smart to update baseboards when you install new flooring, since the old base usually has to come off anyway.

Choosing a style and height

Clean, flat profiles suit modern homes, while colonial and layered profiles feel more traditional. Taller baseboards usually look best with higher ceilings. Door and window casing should work with your baseboards, so we look at the trim as one system and keep the style consistent through the house.

Getting the details right

Walls and floors are rarely perfectly straight, especially in older Florida homes. Tight miters, coped inside corners and careful scribing keep the trim looking sharp, and clean caulk lines leave it ready for paint. It is careful, patient work, and it is what separates finish carpentry from just nailing boards to a wall.
