Custom Kitchen Islands
A custom kitchen island adds storage, prep space and a place to gather. We build kitchen islands in St. Petersburg and Tampa Bay with custom cabinetry, seating overhangs and quartz countertops, often in a contrasting color that anchors a two-tone kitchen remodel.
Planning a kitchen island that fits
An island should make a kitchen easier to use, not harder to walk through. Leave comfortable walkways on every side, especially between the island and the range, sink and refrigerator. Measure with the appliance doors open, and consider marking the outline on the floor with painter's tape so you can walk around it before anything is built.
Storage, seating and shape
Decide what the island needs to do. A prep island works hard with deep drawers and open counter space, while a gathering island needs a seating overhang and room for stools. A curved or angled top can soften a big kitchen and improve the flow. Finishing the island in a contrasting color is a popular way to anchor a two-tone kitchen.
Countertops and finishing details
The island is usually the biggest stretch of countertop in the room, so the stone choice matters. Quartz is a popular pick for its durability and consistent color. Finished end panels, matching trim at the base and clean transitions to the flooring are the details that make an island look built in. If your plan adds a sink or outlets, a licensed plumber or electrician will need to handle that work.

Custom Kitchen Islands questions
How big should a kitchen island be?
It depends on the room. The island should leave comfortable walkways on all sides, so we measure your kitchen and plan around how you move through it.
Can I add an island to an existing kitchen?
Often, yes, if there is enough open floor space. A walkthrough will show whether a full island or a smaller peninsula makes more sense.
Should my island match my other cabinets?
It does not have to. A contrasting island color is a popular choice and works well in two-tone kitchens.
