Choosing a Kitchen Backsplash Tile That Lasts
Tile, grout and layout choices that still look good years from now.

Choose the backsplash last
Your cabinets and countertop are the big surfaces. Pick those first, then bring samples of both when you choose tile. A busy stone countertop usually wants a quiet backsplash, while a plain quartz top leaves room for a bolder tile.
Know your materials
Porcelain and ceramic tile are durable and easy to wipe down, which makes them a strong choice behind a range. Natural stone is beautiful but usually needs sealing. Glass reflects light well in a darker kitchen.
Do not forget the grout
Grout color changes the whole look. A matching grout makes tile read as one calm surface, while a contrasting grout shows off the pattern. Lighter grout behind a cooktop will show stains faster.
Plan the layout before anything is set
The best backsplashes are laid out ahead of time so cuts land in places you will not notice, the pattern is centered on the range, and the tile ends at a clean, deliberate line. This is where a careful tile setter earns their keep.
